Colorado Dyno TunerUsed/new fuel system components | Best Practices from our Dyno Tuner

In most situations when you are upgrading your car you will need to upgrade your fuel system.

For example, fuel pump, injectors, rail(s), fuel pressure regulator and so on. This is one system that you do not want to cheap out on.

  • Be aware, a good performance shop will always look at all the parts for a project, and if some are not of the right quality, they will reject them vs. putting them on and causing damage later on.
  • We will call you up and explain that certain parts are not of our standards and get the right parts for the job. Anything less is doing hack work.

Going with knock off brands and used components can in some cases cause extreme damage to your motor. When a fuel system component fails you it will cause the AFR to go lean which will make the combustion temps and exhaust gas temps skyrocket. That will cause pre-detonation and cause a lot of damage.

When collecting the parts for your fuel system you always want to go with quality NEW parts.

Used parts could and often do fail soon after installation and in some cases never work properly from the beginning. When a fuel system component like an injector sits for a long period of time with fuel in it. It is likely that the injector has began to clog and lose resistance from corrosion.

Fuel pumps are something you should never cheap out on. Unlike an injector when the pump fails it will cause the car to lose fuel pressure and lean out, though when an injector fails it can in some cases dump fuel which is much safer to do than losing fuel and detonating your motor.

Going with a quality name brand pump will give you longevity and peace of mind unlike a knock off brand that could fail prematurely and some cases not work out of the box.

Colorado Dyno TunerWhen choosing your pump i suggest doing a decent amount of research to see what people have had luck with. Each car is different so what someone else uses for their car may not be a good fit for you.

Dont' be afraid to ask us about 'why' we choose certain parts over others. We've done our homework and will share what we know to be true.

If you are unsure about what parts you may need you should consult your tuner for their recommendation try to stick with that.

We have extensive experience in this area, and are always striving to learn more. Every good shop needs to stay abreast of best practices.
